The final episode of the drama series " Taigan no Kaji ~Kore ga, Watashi no Ikiru Michi~" (TBS, Tuesdays at 10pm), starring actress Mikako Tabe , was broadcast on June 3rd. The interaction between Shiho (Tabe) and her father Junya ( Naoto Ogata) drew much attention.
◇The following contains spoilers
"I remember the day Shiho left very well," Junya began. As he made some croquettes, he continued, "I only realized after she was gone how much Shiho and her mother had done for me."
Junya, who had been looking after his brother who had been in a wheelchair for a while, commented with a sense of reality, "It's really tough, taking care of someone."
Junya handed the finished croquette to Shiho. Inside the croquette was a flower-shaped carrot. "I tried to imitate my mom, but this kind of thing is difficult," he said, shrugging his shoulders.
Junya had underestimated cooking, cleaning, laundry, and shopping, calling them "easy jobs." "I took it for granted. I thought that with Mom and Shiho always there, everything would continue as it was. I'm sorry," he apologized.
He also said, tearfully, "I haven't changed even after my mother died. I'm sorry for pushing housework onto Shiho as if it was something I had to take for granted. The food you made for me was delicious. It was delicious... Thank you for all the cleaning, shopping, laundry and ironing."
Comments on social media included, "Dad's croquettes brought me to tears," "The scene where dad makes croquettes really touched me," "Dad made croquettes in imitation of my mother. Cooking food and doing housework for others. Surely her relationship with her father will improve if she realizes how grateful she is for that," and "Dad said he was sorry and thank you, but he didn't ask for forgiveness. Seeing how he has lived his life without cutting corners on housework because it is only for him shows he is truly remorseful."
