Masahiro Matsuoka (48), a member of the popular group "TOKIO," appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) on May 7. Matsuoka, who is originally from Hokkaido, talked about how he started commuting between Tokyo and Hakodate, and about marriage.
When Tetsuko asked Matsuoka, "Your beloved dog Hime-chan passed away last May, and you came to Hakodate, Hokkaido to heal your broken heart, right?" Matsuoka replied, "It was around that time that I started going to Hokkaido quite often," and continued, "After I turned 40, I had been thinking about doing work related to Hokkaido, and then I was offered a job. I thought that if I set up a place to stay, not an office, in Hakodate, I could do a lot of things there. I'm running it like a dual base."
When asked about the delicious food of Hakodate, he said, "The seafood is delicious, and the vegetables are tasty too. Currently there is something called wild garlic. When I eat it pickled in soy sauce, I think, 'Ah, I've come home,' and it's delicious."
Whenever Matsuoka appears on the show, Kuroyanagi always asks him the question "marriage." On this day, Tetsuko began by saying, "Every time Matsuoka comes to Tetsuko's Room, I always ask him this..." to which Matsuoka immediately replied, "Oh, I won't!" He laughed and said, "I already knew it was a question about marriage. It's usually around this time that she asks that question."
The program aired a clip of Matsuoka appearing on the show in his 20s and 30s, in which he spoke about marriage. At age 34, he said, "I basically have no desire to get married. Not since I was a child." As he watched the video, Matsuoka held a handkerchief down his sleeve and said, "I'm sweating again," revealing that he still has no desire to get married. His mother also said she has no worries at all about Matsuoka's marriage.
"I always ask other people about it too, but I don't do it myself," said Tetsuko, to which Matsuoka responded, "What do you think, Kuroyanagi? Are you ready to get married?". In the voice of cross-dressing "super housekeeper" Mitazono, who appears in the drama "Mr. Housekeeper" (on the same network), Matsuoka asked, "How about this year? Will you make an announcement?" Tetsuko replied, "I've thought about it, but it's not something I'm thinking about right now."
