It has been revealed that the new production "The Mongols Invade," a revival performance by the theater troupe "Tokyo Sunshine Boys," which was founded by playwright and director Koki Mitani, will be broadcast and streamed on WOWOW in July.
The Tokyo Sunshine Boys, founded in 1983 with Mitani as the central figure, took the Japanese theater world by storm, but went on hiatus in 1994 at the height of their popularity to take a 30-year break. They returned in February of this year with a new production, "The Mongols Invade."
The story is set on Tsushima Island during the Kamakura period. In preparation for the Mongol invasion, an inspector from the shogunate comes to the village, but the small fishing village is thrown into chaos in order to welcome him. The fishermen and their families, the village elders, the fortune-teller old woman, and traveling performers create a big commotion from the morning onwards... This is how it unfolds. In addition to the members Masahiko Nishimura, Zen Kajiwara, Kazuyuki Aijima, and Masako Miyaji, Yoshida Yo is also participating as a trainee (?) of the theater company.
