Actor Masae Katsuno appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) on May 2nd with her father, actor Hiroshi Katsuno, her mother, talent Kathy Nakajima, and her brother, craftsman Yosuke. When Masae and Yosuke revealed her mother's "revenge" against her father, Katsuno, who had no idea about it, was left speechless many times.
Cathy prepares a proper meal for Katsuno every night. However, there are times when Hiroshi finishes his meal on his way home. While simmering something in a pot, Cathy mutters to herself, "Sometimes she's muttering words that no one should hear, like a spell," says Masanae.
At times like that, Cathy says she gets revenge, saying, "I often throw things away secretly. The things my father is always looking for when he can't find this or that are usually things he threw away secretly after a fight," to which Cathy readily admitted, "Yes, that's right." Cathy bluntly replied, "You were looking for your leather jacket, weren't you?" and "I threw it away about 10 years ago." Hiroshi seemed reluctant to give up, saying, "I'm still looking for it," but Cathy confessed that she threw it in the trash, saying, "It was moldy."
When Yosuke added, "That's not all. There are many things. The leather jacket is just the tip of the iceberg," Hiroshi was surprised and exclaimed, "Just the tip of the iceberg!", and added the punchline, "If I'm not careful, I'll get thrown away too."
When their eldest daughter Nanami, who passed away 16 years ago at the young age of 29, was still alive, the Katsuno family lived in a detached house in the mountains of Gotemba City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Masanae expressed her gratitude to her parents, who commuted between Gotemba (home) and Tokyo (work), saying, "We don't have a single memory of feeling lonely. Our hearts and stomachs were always full. They really raised us to be free and easy. Now that I'm a parent, I wonder when they slept, how they did it, and what kind of stamina they had."
