The second episode of the drama series " Taigan no Kaji ~Kore ga, Watashi no Ikiru Michi~ " (TBS, Tuesdays at 10pm), starring actress Mikako Tabe , made a comment that "being a full-time housewife is a luxury" which became a hot topic on social media.

Shiho (Tabe) meets Nakatani, a bureaucrat at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare who is on parental leave for two years, at a park. She is happy to have made her first dad friend, but...
Shiho revealed that she had quit her job as a hairdresser when she got married and is now a full-time housewife. Nakatani pompously remarked, "Well, unless you're confident like me that you can make up for lost time after returning to work, it's not easy to take long parental leave."
When Shiho retorted, "This is also the good old life," Nakatani refuted, "In this era of low growth, an extremely low birthrate and an aging population, and an ever-increasing number of people to support, this country no longer has the luxury for women to devote themselves solely to housework. Being a full-time housewife is a luxury!"
On social media, people were saying things like, "Here comes a strong dad! LOL," "Such a strong encounter (LOL)," "You're right. But I'll live my life grateful to my husband for letting me live a luxurious life!", "If someone says, 'Being a full-time housewife is a luxury,' say back, 'Luxury is wonderful,'" "Being a full-time housewife is a luxury. That would be too much damage," "It's not up to other people to decide whether a full-time housewife is a luxury or not," and "If there was actually someone like Nakatani I'd be put off, but it's funny when Dean does it."
The exchange between Shiho and Nakatani was presented like a game screen, with captions such as "Shiho has also gotten her daddy!" appearing, and it drew attention on social media with comments such as "It's like an RPG and it's fun," "The game-like development between Shiho and Nakatani was hilarious!" and "It's interesting that the conversation between Shiho and Nakatani was set up like a game."
The original work is the novel "Taigan no Kaji" (Kodansha Bunko) by Akeno Kayoko. The drama depicts the "endless work" of housework through interactions with "people on the other side" who have different positions and ways of thinking than the protagonist. This will be Tabe's second time starring in the same time slot, five years after "My Housekeeper Nagisa-san" (2020).
