In the previous episode 8, Nobu (Nagase Yuzuna) asks Kusakichi ( Sadao Abe) to help her family who are feeling down, and Kusakichi agrees to make them Anpan just once.
Despite the dissatisfied look on Kamaji's face (Kotaro Yoshida), Kusakichi begins to build an improvised bread oven with the help of Katsura (Ogura Soga) and others. The bean-jam Anpan are successfully baked and sell one after another, and Nobu bows down to Kusakichi once again. Hatako (Noriko Eguchi) also bows down to Kamaji and asks to run the bakery, and Kamaji reluctantly agrees. The next day, Kusakichi is nowhere to be seen... and so the story unfolds.
In the ninth episode, "Asada Bread" opens, and Nobu and Hatako are enthusiastic to promote the store. However, in this town where people do not have the custom of eating bread, they struggle to sell as much as they had hoped.
Meanwhile, Takashi (Yuki Nanako Matsushima), who he hasn't heard from in a while, and his heart brightens. Nobu is also happy to see Takashi like that. Takashi heads to Kochi using the address on the postcard to find Tomiko, for Chihiro (Masataka Hirayama), who has a fever and wants to see her mother, but...
"Anpan" is based on the married couple Takashi Yanase(1919-2013) and Nobu Komatsu(1918-1993), the manga artist and picture book writer who created "Anpanman." It is a "story of love and courage" that will make you feel the joy of living, depicting how these two, who were once nobody, overcame all sorts of rough seas to become "Anpanman," the embodiment of "unreversible justice."
