Season 2 of the NHK BS period drama "Akinaiseiden Kin to Gin 2" (NHK BS Premium 4K, Sunday 6:45 pm), starring actor Fuka Koshiba, will begin on April 6th. Season 2 is the "Edo Edition". It begins immediately after Season 1, and Masumi-ya (Yamanishi Jun) appears, who finds fault with the hugely successful "Hamahabutae", saying "one of our clerks embezzled the money." Also, Sachi and Chizou expand the store and realize the dream of the previous head of Gosuzu-ya, opening a store in Edo, but sad events strike Sachi again and again...
"Akinaiseiden Kin to Gin" is set in the mid-Edo period and depicts the common people who work hard and use their ingenuity to succeed in business, while incorporating a variety of customs. In season 1, which aired in 2023, the main character Sachi (Koshiba) marries Tomozo (Matsumoto Reo), the sixth-generation owner of Gosuzuya, and begins selling "Hamahabutae" from New Year's as a desperate plan to revive the struggling Gosuzuya.
The "Edo Edition" will feature new cast members Kazama Morio as kabuki actor Kikuse Eijiro, Takashima Masanobu as real money changer Masugoya Chubei, Kataoka Sennosuke as kabuki star Nakamura Tomigorō, Asari Yosuke as joiner Wasaburo, and Murata Takehiro as manager of the Omiya Edo branch, Shohachi.
The subtitle of the first episode is "The Lord's Big Gamble." It is New Year's Day, 1746. Sachi (Koshiba) and Chizo (Matsumoto) make their first shipment of Hama Habutae, and 500 bolts of the fabric are immediately sold out. Then Tsuki Gyoji, a fellow kimono merchant, comes in and says he suspects the Hama Habutae fabric may have been stolen. When they go to the meeting hall, Masumi-ya (Yamanishi Jun) complains that "a clerk has smuggled 500 bolts of the Habutae fabric into the black market."
Although the color and weight of the Hama Habutae are different, Masumi-ya insists that the Gosuzu-ya's 500 bolts are the stolen Habutae. Sachi then presents a certain piece of evidence, and when Fushimiya (Tanaka Ken) identifies it...
