It has been announced that Kenjiro Tsuda, a voice actor who is also active as an actor, will play his first lead role in the documentary drama "1995 - 30 Years of the Tokyo Subway Sarin Attack: Voices from the Front Lines of Lifesaving," which will be broadcast on Fuji TV from 9:00 pm to 10:52 pm on March 21. The drama is based on the "Tokyo Subway Sarin Attack" that occurred 30 years ago on March 20, 1995, and Tsuda will play the director of a hospital's emergency center.
In the "Sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway," 14 people were killed and approximately 6,000 injured by followers of the Aum Shinrikyo cult on the Marunouchi, Hibiya, and Chiyoda subway lines. In stations and hospitals that were in a state of panic, desperate rescue efforts were made to save as many lives as possible. This dramatizes the "relay of life" during the terrible panic, based on original interviews conducted over the course of 30 years, and depicts the people who worked hard to rescue people at the risk of their own lives.
Tsuda plays Tatsuhiko Tsurugi, a real-life doctor who decided to accept all patients who requested treatment and provided emergency medical care. Even though it is unclear whether the cause is sarin, he decides to administer PAM, a drug used to treat pesticide poisoning.
Tsuda commented, "When the incident occurred, I was living along the Marunouchi Line. I was in training school at the time, and when I tried to go to the rehearsal hall in the morning, the station was closed. I wasn't watching TV, so I didn't immediately understand what had happened. Later, I found out that a huge incident had occurred, and I remember being shocked by how shocking it was. Now, 30 years later, I felt a sense of nervousness about playing the lead role in this production. I am very honoured to have been given this opportunity."
"I would like to portray the medical scene at that time in a realistic way, which has not been portrayed much until now. I will do my best to carefully convey the incident to not only those who are familiar with it, but also to generations who are not familiar with it," he said enthusiastically.
The cast of Hinako Sakurai and Yuki Izumisawa was also announced. Sakurai will play the nurse Nao Hoshino, and Izumisawa will play Naoki Sonoda, the driver of the vehicle where the sarin gas was released and who takes part in rescue operations at the risk of his own life.
