Kabuki actor Ichikawa Danjuro will appear on Kuroyanagi Tetsuko's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), broadcast at 1:00 pm on January 14th. After completing his two-year name succession performance last year, he will make his first appearance as Ichikawa Danjuro XIII.
In the succession performance, he also performed the Ichikawa family's traditional art of "Nirami," which was held at Tokyo Skytree in Tokyo and on a boat stage in Dotonbori in Osaka for his final performance. He said that he wants to make "Ichikawa Danjuro" a new beginning for himself as the 13th generation, just as the zodiac comes full circle at 12.
His son, Kan'gen, took on the stage name Ichikawa Shinnosuke and made his stage debut. They performed together in shows, and although he was worried that he might get tired of it midway through, he was relieved to see that his son worked hard on the stage as his partner, supporting him. His daughter, Reika, is now in junior high school and appears in kabuki and dramas. He talks to her when she asks for advice about appearing in a drama, but he basically just watches over her without interfering.
