The 48th episode of the NHK morning drama "Omusubi" (General TV, Monday to Saturday 8:00am and others), starring Kanna Hashimoto, was broadcast on December 4th. In this episode, viewers were drawn to the actions of Yui's (Hashimoto) grandfather, Nagayoshi (Matsudaira Ken), who rushed to the disaster area of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake.
In the 48th episode, Yui and her vocational school classmates interviewed people in the Sakura-dori shopping arcade to find out what was made at soup kitchens during the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. Morikawa (Kote Shinya) was surprised that there were a lot of ingredients, and said, "I thought tofu would be the hardest to get." Masato (Kitamura Yukiya) looked bitter and recalled how Nagayoshi had run around trying to gather ingredients.
On the seventh day after the earthquake, Nagayoshi rushed from Itoshima, Fukuoka to Kobe and arrived at the evacuation center where Yui and her family were staying. Nagayoshi said, "I actually brought a lot of snacks and food in my car, but I'm handing them out while I go around to the various evacuation centers looking for you guys."
Later, Nagayoshi sees the few ingredients that have arrived at the shelter. Masato explains, "This is still a good amount," and Nagayoshi, learning of the plight of the people at the shelter, says, "I'll go get some ingredients," and leaves the shelter.
The next day, Nagayoshi returns to the evacuation center with a bucket full of tofu in both hands. He says he got some from a tofu shop in Sanda City, Hyogo Prefecture, and says, "The owner said he wanted to help out, but he was worried he'd be a nuisance if he went." When Wakabayashi (played by Shinya Niiro), an employee of Kobe City Hall, heard this, he replied, "We'll ask for cooperation from the city."
After that, Nagayoshi continued to collect a large amount of vegetables, fish, dried sardines, etc., and Aiko (Kumiko Aso) looked back on that time and said, "Grandpa was so reliable at that time." Fukuda (Hideaki Okajima), who was also present at the event, also reminisced, "Thanks to that, young people started to send us more and more food."
On social media, comments included, "Nagayoshi-san, you're amazing...", "Nagayoshi-san's initiative is incredible", "A true hero", "Too handsome", and "Nagayoshi-san is just too cool. Seriously, the lord."
