NHK has announced that it will broadcast the nostalgic "NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen - 22nd Edition" (remastered version) on its general channel from 4:30 pm on December 14th and 15th. The video of the Kohaku, which had many disturbances, has been restored to the same quality as 4K using video restoration technology. The first part will be broadcast on the 14th and the second part on the 15th.
The "NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen" first aired as a New Year's radio program in 1951. In 1953, it started as a New Year's Eve television program, and this year marks its 75th anniversary.
Until the NHK Hall was completed in 1973, the first to 23rd editions were broadcast live from an outside theater. At that time, recording technology was in its infancy, and much of the footage was not stored by NHK, and even if it was, it was scratched and disturbed. This time, the footage has been restored using advanced technology, and it is said that the footage conveys the enthusiasm of the participating singers and the enthusiasm of the audience more than ever before.
This year, many famous songs were performed, including Kiyohiko Ozaki's "Mata Au Hi Made," Hiroshi Itsuki's "Yokohama Tasogare," Rumiko Koyanagi's "Watashi no Jokamachi," and Masaaki Sakai's "Saraba Koibito."
