Lyricist Matsumoto Takashi will appear on BS12 TwellV's program "Tsurube-chan and Sawako-chan: A Showa-era Great Senior and a Strange Two," which will be broadcast from 9 p.m. on November 18. He will talk about his life as a lyricist that spans more than 50 years.
The program is a talk variety show hosted by rakugo performer Shofutei Tsurube and essayist Agawa Sawako, and began in October last year. The "Showa-era great seniors," who call Tsurube, who has 52 years of showbiz experience, and Agawa, who has 40 years of showbiz experience, "Tsurube-chan" and "Sawako-chan," appear as guests in each episode.
Matsumoto was an active member of the legendary band "Happy End," which pioneered Japanese rock. As a lyricist, he has written many famous songs such as "Cotton Handkerchief" and "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind." He is said to have written more than 2,000 songs.
He will talk about the formation of "April Fools," the band that was the precursor to "Happy End," to when he began writing lyrics in earnest after "Happy End" disbanded, and little-known anecdotes about his signature song "Kaze wo Atsumete."
