It has been announced that the new TV anime "Mashin Genesis Wataru", a spin-off of the popular anime "Mashin Hero Wataru", will be broadcast on TV Tokyo every Sunday at 5pm starting January 12th, 2025. It will be a "Wataru" series aimed at a "new generation", with the protagonist, Hoshibe Wataru, a fourth grade elementary school student, appearing as a YouTuber aiming to become a superstar. Together with his partner Ryujinmaru, Wataru will embark on a "buzzworthy" adventure battle in Chubukai, a parallel world of floating blocks.
It has also been revealed that the dance and vocal group "lol" will be in charge of the opening theme "POP UP!". It has also been announced that the manga will start serialization in the January 2025 issue of the manga magazine "Monthly CoroCoro Comic" (Shogakukan), which will be released on December 13th.
"Mashin Genesis Wataru" stars Tamura Mutsumi as Wataru and Sugita Tomokazu as Ryuujinmaru, with Tanezaki Atsumi as Amabe Kakeru, Konishi Katsuyuki as Ofurain, Umezawa Megu as Maro, and Kugimiya Rie as Ryunryun. The series is directed by Kamakura Yumi and produced by Bandai Namco Pictures.
"Mashhin Hero Wataru" tells the story of elementary school student Senbe Wataru who is taken to another world and fights to save it. The first TV series aired from 1988 to 1989. The second series, "Mashhin Hero Wataru 2," aired from 1990 to 1991, and the third series, "Cho Mashin Hero Wataru," aired from 1997 to 1998. A new 9-episode web anime, "Mashhin Hero Wataru: Ryuujinmaru of the Seven Souls," was released in April 2020, and a special edition, "Mashhin Hero Wataru: Ryuujinmaru of the Seven Souls - Reunion," was released in theaters in 2022, which also attracted attention.
