The drama series "The Travel Nurse" (TV Asahi, Thursdays 9pm) starring actor Okada Masaki will begin on October 17th. It is a sequel to the drama of the same name that aired in October 2022. It is written by Nakazono Miho, who has also written "Doctor-X: Surgeon Daimon Michiko". The quirky duo of Nasuda Ayumu (Okada), an excellent nurse with a nursing qualification "nurse practitioner" that allows her to perform certain medical procedures, and super nurse Kuki Shizuka (Nakai Kiichi) will reform the medical field by putting patients first. The first episode will be an extended special.
Also starring Adachi Yumi, Noro Kayo, Iketani Nobue, Asada Miyoko, and Terajima Shinobu will be reprising their roles from the previous series. New cast members include Ikusaburo Yamazaki, Nozomi Morita, Daichi Watanabe, Daiki Matsumoto, Kim Hyung-yul, Shunsuke Kazama, Makita Sports, and Takashi Naito.
The synopsis of the first episode is... In 2022, the operation of super nurse Shizuka, who was suffering from an incurable disease, was successfully completed in New York, and travel nurse Ayumu continued working there. After returning to Japan, Ayumu went to his new workplace, the flagship hospital "Nishitokyo General Hospital".
On the way, Ayumu stopped by a rice ball shop and suddenly, in front of him, the arrogant customer Shoichi Otaguro (Naito), coughed up blood and collapsed. Ayumu immediately administered first aid and transported him to Nishitokyo General Hospital. However, when Otaguro regained consciousness, he continued to be arrogant and demanded, "Take him to a special room!", causing trouble for surgeon Naohiko Kamiyama (Kazama) and others.
In fact, Otaguro had been the hospital's director until last month, but he had been dismissed after a series of allegations of corruption and power harassment came to light. The new director, Yakushimaru Taku (Yamazaki), is the young man who is pushing for reforms to make the organization cleaner, and, for compliance reasons, he cannot give special treatment to such a person, so he arranges for Otaguro to be admitted to a branch hospital on a remote island. Otaguro is angry and resists, but is eventually kicked out.
By chance, Ayumu meets Shizuka for the first time in two years. Just then, Otaguro collapses again on his way to the branch hospital...
