It was announced on the 6th that the theme song for the TBS Sunday Theatre drama "Diamond Sleeping in the Sea" (Sundays at 9pm), starring actor Kamiki Ryunosuke, which will begin on October 20th, will be "Nekko", written by rock band King Gnu for the drama. The song will be released on the first broadcast.

The drama stars Kamiki, who will be starring in a commercial TV drama for the first time in 13 years and in a Sunday Theatre drama for the first time, and plays two roles. The team of screenwriter Nogi Akiko, director Tsukahara Ayuko, and producer Arai Junko, who have produced numerous hits such as the dramas "Unnatural" (2018), "MIU404" (2020), and the currently-showing movie "The Last Mile", have reunited.

The theme songs for the dramas produced by this production team are always a hot topic, and they are well-known for their use of theme songs. There was much speculation as to who would write the theme song for this drama, but it was finally announced that King Gnu would be writing it.

King Gnu's Daiki Tsuneta commented on the theme song, "This is King Gnu's first new song in about a year. We gave it a very simple title, 'Nekko.' I hope it will be a modest song that will help us live in the present, while thinking about what has been passed down since the postwar 1950s, the main setting of the drama, and what has been lost."

Director Tsukahara commented, "I was touched by the world of the song that was created by understanding the tempo and image of the script. I am looking forward to this song leading and enveloping everything until the final episode. The theme song is the last cast member. We will cherish it and accompany it. Please look forward to it."

"Diamonds Sleeping in the Sea" is an epic tale of love, friendship and family spanning 70 years, set on Hashima Island in Nagasaki Prefecture, which has flourished since 1955 due to the coal mining industry, and in modern-day Tokyo. It is a timeless human love entertainment that depicts the "era of nothing but dreams and vitality" from the post-war reconstruction period to the high economic growth period, and the modern era when "everything seems to exist but young people cannot have dreams."

Kamiki plays the protagonist Teppei, who lives on Hashima Island (Gunkanjima) in Nagasaki Prefecture in the 1950s, and Reo, a host living in modern-day Tokyo. This is the first time that Kamiki will play two roles in a drama. Also appearing in the drama are Saito Takumi, Sugisaki Hana, Ikeda Eliza, Shimizu Hiroya, Nakajima Tomoko, Yamamoto Mirai, Sada Masashi, Kunimura Jun, Tsuchiya Tao, and Sawamura Ikki.
