It has been announced that a costume exhibition and other events will be held at SHIBUYA TSUTAYA (Shibuya Ward, Tokyo) in conjunction with the start of broadcasting and distribution of the WOWOW drama series "Drama W Golden Kamuy - Hokkaido Tattoo Prisoner Battle Arc -", a sequel to the movie "Golden Kamuy" (2024), from October 6th. In addition, the first episode will be distributed for free on the WOWOW official YouTube and X (formerly Twitter) event page.
"Golden Kamuy" is based on the popular manga (2014-2022) by Satoru Noda, which has exceeded 29 million copies in total circulation (as of July).
Before the broadcast and distribution of the drama series, Noda released a comment, saying, "I was impressed by the production, which was even more detailed than the original, and I felt that it was becoming a huge deal, and I was shaking. The main characters, of course, but also the guest characters are amazing. Everyone is funny, cute, cool, and fun. I really want you to watch it."
The story is set in Hokkaido at the end of the Meiji era, and depicts a survival battle in the wilderness of a group of eccentric characters fighting over a huge amount of buried Ainu gold. The movie starring Yamazaki Kento (※1) was released in January this year and became a hit, grossing over 3 billion yen. The sequel, a TV drama version, will feature the same main cast as Asirpa (※2), including Yamada Anna. New cast members include Takahashi Maryjun, Sakurai Yuki, Kitamura Kazuki, and Hagiwara Masato.
In the first episode, "The Legendary Bear Hunter," Sugimoto (Yamazaki), who survived the Russo-Japanese War and is known as "Invincible Sugimoto," begins searching for the escaped prisoners with coded tattoos that indicate the location of the gold, together with the Ainu girl Asirpa (Yamada) and Shiraishi (Yamoto Yuma), an escapee from Abashiri Prison. Meanwhile, Tanigaki (Otani Ryohei), who was injured and separated from the 7th Division led by Tsurumi (Tamaki Hiroshi), meets Nihei Tetsuzo (Fujimoto Takahiro), known as the "legendary bear hunter," and pursues the Hokkaido wolf, which is believed to be extinct... and so on.
SHIBUYA TSUTAYA will be holding the "Great Gathering of Fierce Men!! 'Serial Drama W Golden Kamuy' Opening Event" at 4pm on October 4th. The "Movie Edition" will run until the 6th, and in addition to visual exhibits of popular characters, a countdown will be held to commemorate the start of the serial drama. From the 7th onwards, the "Serial Drama Edition" will be held, and costumes worn by seven characters, including Sugimoto, Asirpa, Tsurumi, and Hijikata (Tachi Hiroshi), used in the actual filming will be exhibited.
The event will also feature a campaign where you can receive an original sticker by taking a photo at a photo spot and posting it on social media with the hashtag "Golden Kamuy New Chapter Opening", as well as sales of official merchandise from the live-action version of Golden Kamuy.
The film version will be shown on October 4 (4pm-10pm) and October 5-6 (10am-10pm), while the drama series will be on October 7 (12pm-10pm), October 8-13 (10am-10pm) and October 14 (10am-8pm).
The W Golden Kamuy series - Hokkaido Tattoo Prisoner Battle Arc (9 episodes) will be broadcast and streamed on WOWOW Prime, WOWOW4K and WOWOW On Demand every Sunday at 10pm starting October 6. The first episode will also be streamed for free on the WOWOW official YouTube and X Event page.

This is the first time I visited the live-action filming, but there were already several large hotel sets built around the Sapporo Sekai Hotel, and although they were very elaborate, I was told that "Tomorrow we will tear them all down and make the set for the next episode...". The second time I visited, it was the set of Edoguy-kun's house, which was also more elaborate than the original, and I was impressed. I felt that it was a huge project, and I was shaking.
That was the first time I met Lieutenant Tsurumi, and he was wearing only a coat and topless, and he talked to me in that outfit, and it was a dreamlike time.
