The main cast for the TV anime "TANK CHAIR," based on the manga by Manabu Yashiro serialized in "Monthly Shonen Sirius" (Kodansha), has been announced. It has been revealed that Koki Uchiyama, Minori Fujidera, Gakuto Kajiwara, and Saori Hayami will be appearing in the series. Uchiyama will play Nagi Taira, the strongest assassin who protects his sister from a bullet and is left unconscious. Fujidera will play Shizuka Taira, Nagi's sister. Kajiwara will play Naosumi Kurosaka, a former classmate of Nagi's who harbors a strong rivalry with him. Hayami will play Touko Kurosaka, Naosumi's sister and his partner in battle.
Character visuals for Nagi, Shizuka, Naozumi, and Touko, as well as a visual of the Tank Chair Mark One that Nagi will be riding, and promotional videos for each character have been released.
Uchiyama commented, "I was surprised by the nature of Taira Nagi, who is usually unconscious but awakens when someone directs murderous intent towards her. 'TANK CHAIR' is an animation packed with passionate drama between the characters and battle action full of diverse gimmicks. The recording method is pre-scoring rather than post-scoring, and all the cast members are approaching it with incredible concentration and passion, so I would like many people to watch it."
Fujidera said, "Shizuka is a straightforward character who doesn't hesitate to put herself in danger if it means fully awakening her older brother, Nagi. Just thinking about what it would be like if I were in the same situation as Shizuka makes me shudder. Yet, every time I see her carefree demeanor or glimpse into her inner thoughts, I feel how endearing she is. I was conscious of not missing a single word of the wonderful performances of my seniors, and I poured my heart and soul into playing Shizuka while recording with everyone who is so passionate about the work. Everyone in the show is somewhat clumsy, and I'm drawn to the strength that comes from their imperfections, and the action unique to 'TANK CHAIR' is also very appealing. Kajiwara said, "Naosumi is Touko's older brother, and he lives each day steeped in anguish, anger, and pain. When I play Naosumi, I squeeze out all of my own negative aspects and approach the role with a heart that's almost withered...! So it's very tough in a good way when I'm playing him...lol But I think that means there's a lot of his deep side packed into the role. And we're recording using a pre-scoring method, so the actors are given a lot of freedom to perform! Hayami said, "The Kurosaka siblings tell another story in contrast to the Taira siblings. The younger sister, Touko, is a strong person who is always thinking of her brother, Naosumi, and is determined to protect him. During the recording, I made sure to cherish the deep bond that the siblings have built together. Actually, I was quite surprised when the script at the audition only had 'shuu,' 'shuu,' 'shuu.' Furthermore, the recording of the main story is done in a pre-scoring format where only the voice exchanges are recorded in advance. I was nervous about entering a new world, but now I'm enjoying its depth and the good tension it creates. The coolness and fast-paced battles of the original work, and each story, are carefully depicted in the anime. I think it will be a very impactful visual work! Please look forward to it!"
"Tank Chair" tells the story of Taira Nagi, the strongest assassin who falls unconscious after protecting his sister from a bullet, and begins rehabilitation. Nagi has a unique constitution where he regains consciousness for a short time when someone is intent to kill him, and in order to achieve full awakening, his sister Shizuka takes him along to rehabilitate against formidable opponents. The series has sold over 1 million copies worldwide.
The anime will be directed by Naohiro "Tady" Yoshihira and Hiroaki Ando, with Yoshihira handling series composition and scriptwriting, and Ando also writing the script. Polygon Pictures will produce the anime. It will air in the fall of 2026.
