To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the theatrical release of the late Satoshi Kon Kon's animated film "Paprika," a 4K remastered version will be screened in 82 theaters nationwide starting August 7th. Following the overwhelming response to its revival screening in January 2026, the scale of the screening has been expanded. Original admission gifts will also be distributed.
Prior to its nationwide release, the film will have a preview screening at Shinjuku Piccadilly (Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo) from July 17th to 23rd. The "20th Anniversary of Release! Paprika 4K UHD + Blu-ray Set" will be released on Getsuku.
"Paprika" is a film based on a novel by Yasutaka Tsutsui, released in 2006. It depicts the adventures of Paprika, a dream detective who confronts terrorists who violate dreams. Masashi Ando, known for his work as animation director on films such as "Princess Mononoke " and "Spirited Away," served as character designer and animation director, with music by Susumu Hirasawa. Madhouse produced the film. The voice cast included Megumi Hayashibara, Toru Emori, Katsuyuki Hori, Toru Furuya, Akio Otsuka, and Koichi Yamadera.
