The car-enthusiast comedy duo "Ogiyahagi" explores the "car history" of their guests in "Ogiyahagi's Car History: NO CAR, NO LIFE!" (BS Nippon Television, Saturdays at 9 PM). The Getsuku broadcast will feature "Nostalgic 2 Days," Japan's largest classic motor show, held at Pacifico Yokohama (Nishi Ward, Yokohama City).
This year marked the 17th edition of the event, which featured approximately 280 classic cars exhibited by around 180 companies, ranging from major automobile manufacturers to classic car specialists. The event attracted over 45,000 visitors over the two days, and the comedy duo Ogi and Yahagi were constantly excited, exclaiming things like, "A 'Toyota 700'? Was there such a thing?" and "What is this?! Amazing! What does this mean?"
The fourth-generation Nissan Gloria, released in 1971, attracted attention as the first model to share a body with the former Prince's "Gloria" and Nissan's "Cedric," becoming sibling cars. It succeeded in attracting young people and women, becoming such a popular car that its sales figures surpassed those of the Crown, and guest Keisuke Okada reminisced about the time, saying, "It was even used in detective dramas!"
Next, we visited the booth of "FUJITSUBO," a long-established muffler manufacturer with 95 years of history. Okada said that a friend of his used one of their mufflers, and he shared memories of its captivating exhaust sound, saying, "It has an amazing sound. You can tell who's here by the sound of their muffler."
Afterwards, when Hiroaki Ogi stood before the exclusive muffler for the Mazda Savanna RX-3, which had gained attention as a rival to the Skyline GT-R, he was speechless at its beauty, exclaiming, "It has such presence, wow!" When the topic of mufflers with meticulously crafted sound quality came up, Okada leaned forward and said, "It has a uniquely great sound!" and then gave a masterful imitation of the exhaust sound.
