Junko Asano, the mother of actor Tadanobu Asano and a painter, model, and actress herself, will appear on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) on April 29th at 1pm, along with talent Cathy Nakajima.
The two have been best friends for 60 years, since their teens. In their teens, they formed a girls' group called the "Cleopatra Party" in their hometown of Yokohama, where they enjoyed fashion and dancing. Both were separated from their American fathers at a young age and had lonely childhoods. Although they were sometimes called delinquents by society, they reveal that each other's presence was their emotional support.
Ms. Asano has been active as a painter since her 60s and as a model since she was 75, making her a leading figure among the active senior generation. She shares photos and anecdotes from her son Tadanobu's childhood.
