An event for the TV anime "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, " based on the manga serialized in "Weekly Shonen Sunday" (Shogakukan), was held on March 29th at "AnimeJapan 2026," an event currently taking place at Tokyo Big Sight (Koto Ward, Tokyo). Shinichiro Miki, who plays Revolte, made a surprise appearance at the event, and Atsumi Tanezaki ( Frieren ), Kana Ichinose ( Fern ), and Chiaki Kobayashi (Stark ) were surprised, saying, "We didn't know!"
Miki played the role of Revolte, a powerful demon who appeared in the "Revolte of Divine Techniques" arc of the second season of the TV anime. The "Revolte of Divine Techniques" arc depicted the battle between Revolte, Stark, and the first-class magician Genau, and the spectacular battle scenes became a hot topic.
Miki said that she had been reading the original manga series since its beginning, and when she was cast, she said, "I was scared. It's a popular work, and I was happy to be asked to take on such an important role, but at the same time, I was nervous and felt a lot of pressure about stepping into that world."
Reflecting on the recording process, she said, "There are nuances in the pacing that you can't understand from the script alone, and there are many instances where conversations are carried out with only a few lines of dialogue. You never know what kind of spectacular action will unfold within that. With that sense of excitement, I was able to stand in front of the microphone in the studio."
Kobayashi, who plays Stark, revealed about recording the battle scene with Revolte, "In terms of acting, it was a very close call. There was a sense of tension where one hit would mean death, so I approached it with a performance that was truly like I was clinging on."
"Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" is a manga written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe, which began serialization in "Weekly Shonen Sunday" in April 2020. Frieren, the mage of the hero's party who defeated the Demon King, is an elf and therefore long-lived, but after experiencing the death of her companions, she embarks on a journey "to understand humanity." It was selected for the Manga Taisho Award 2021, the New Artist Award at the 25th Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize, the 69th (2023) Shogakukan Manga Award, and the Shonen category at the 48th Kodansha Manga Award. The cumulative circulation of the comic books exceeds 35 million copies.
The first season of the TV anime aired on Nippon Television's anime block "FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT" from September 2023 to March 2024. The second season began airing in the same block in January and concluded with its final episode on March 27th. The production of the third season, "The Golden Land Arc," which is scheduled to air on the Nippon Television network from October 2027, has also generated considerable buzz.
