In episode 7, Kobayashi Erhu (Yanagi Shuntaro) passes away, and after the funeral, Fumina and Yamada talk about life and death, creative writing, and various other topics. When Fumina talks about the last time she saw Erhu, Yamada tells her, "I'm sure Kobayashi was happy." When Fumina asks, "Are you getting along with her?" Yamada replies, "Hmm, I guess it's the same as always."
Afterwards, Fumina visits her boyfriend Yukio's ( Ryo Narita) house. The kind Yukio cooks her pot-au-feu, thinking she must be tired. Fumina then meets her editor, Tada (Kawai Aoba), and talks about Yamada... and so on.
When Tada asks about Yamada's condition, "Has anything been complicated?", Fumina replies, "Not really. Well, if that's the case, he always seems depressed." Fumina then says to Tada, "Yamada, you still live your life thinking that your lover is still alive, don't you?"
He continued, "People can only live for about 100 years at most...oh, I mean physically. As a body, we can only live for about 100 years, but if, like Yamada-san, you believe that someone who no longer exists, someone who has disappeared from this world, is still alive, then, somehow, your brain works...that person can live not just for 100 years, but forever," he said, talking about Yamada's belief that his deceased lover was still alive.
On social media, it was revealed that Yamada's boyfriend is no longer with us, and many expressed their shock. Comments included, "What?!", "What does this mean?!", "What? He's already dead?", "Is Yamada's boyfriend no longer with us?", and "I don't know how to feel about this anymore."
