The cast of the spin-off drama "Yamada Todoroki Law Office," based on the NHK morning drama "Wings of a Tiger" to be aired in the first half of 2024, has been announced, revealing that Akimoto Sayaka will play Yamada Natsu, the long-lost sister of Yamada Yone, played by Doi Shiori.
"Wings of a Tiger" is an original story based on the life of Yoshiko Mibuchi (1914-1984), Japan's first female lawyer and later a judge, with Ito Sari playing the heroine, Torako Inozume. "Yamada Todoroki Law Office" depicts the unknown episodes surrounding the establishment of the Yamada Todoroki Law Office by Torako's best friends, Yamada Yone (Doi) and Todoroki Taichi (Tozuka Junki). The story incorporates extensive backstories of Yone and Todoroki, depicting the world of "Wings of a Tiger" from the perspective of a lawyer.
Yamada Natsu is Yone's long-lost sister. She visits the cafe "Todai" where Yone works and proposes a new business venture to Masuno targeting the occupying forces, but is met with unreasonable violence... The appearance of Masuno (Hirayama Yusuke), the owner of "Todai," has also been revealed. She escapes with Yone during an air raid, but is seriously injured and on the verge of death.
Additionally, it has been announced that Ei Morisako, Taku Suzuki, and Ryosuke Otani will appear in the film. They will play Shizuko Terada, who worked as an interpreter for GHQ and visited Yone, a woman who studied law before the war to help improve the status of Japanese women. Suzuki will play a detective at Ueno Police Station who is in charge of a case involving Yone's older sister, Natsu, and Otani will play Mizutani, who runs the town of Ueno behind the scenes.
The drama "Yamada Todoroki Law Office" will be broadcast from 9:00 PM to 10:42 PM on March 20th.
◇Story
Yamada Yone (Doi Shiori) was transporting Cafe Lighthouse owner Masuno (Hirayama Yusuke), who was critically injured in an air raid, in a handcart. In the Ueno area, devastated by the war and rife with disorder and discrimination, the law she had studied seemed powerless, and Yone's heart gradually became hardened. Though she reunites with her long-lost sister, Natsu (Akimoto Sayaka), the two remain at odds. Then, Natsu is attacked by unreasonable violence. Yone pursues the culprit, but Masuno is caught up in the machinations of the forces controlling the black market, and the truth is buried in obscurity. In despair, driven by anger, Yone writes Article 14 of the Constitution, which she read in the newspaper, on the wall. Eventually, upon reuniting with Todoroki Taichi (Tozuka Junki), Yone opens a law firm and takes on cases involving desperate people.
