It has been announced that actor Shigeyuki Totsugi will be appearing in the TV Asahi Thursday drama "Okome no Onna - National Tax Agency Document Investigation Division, Miscellaneous Affairs Room" (Thursdays 9pm), starring Nanako Matsushima, which will begin airing on January 8th, 2026. He will play Mugitani Minoru, the boss of the main character, Seiko Yoneda (played by Matsushima), who has a deep-rooted grudge and complex towards her.
The story is set in the "Complex National Tax Case Processing Room (commonly known as Zakkoku)," a newly established original department within the Document Investigation Division of the Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau, which boasts high information gathering capabilities and investigative skills in tax investigations. It follows the story of skilled investigator Masako Yoneda, who, together with a team of unique individuals, takes down unscrupulous tax evaders.
Toji plays Mugiya, a career employee at the Ministry of Finance and head of the Second Taxation Department at the Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau, who is his superior. He still holds a grudge against Masako, who joined the company at the same time as him, for the humiliation she caused him when they compared him during his new employee training. He persistently calls Masako "Komeda Masako" and frequently interferes with her behavior.
Toji commented, "I've played the role of a nasty boss several times before, so I want to hone that nasty boss role and aim to be even more nasty. Mugiya has a one-sided complex about Masako, and that's very realistic. I want to express that to the fullest."
He co-starred with Matsushima in the NHK Asadora drama "Natsuzora" (2019), and said, "We had a wrap party in Hokkaido, and I was impressed by how friendly she was, chatting with everyone. She's such a cheerful and nice person, so even though it's just for a role, I feel bad about nagging her... (laughs). I want to bring out my sarcasm, envy and jealousy."
The cast members for "Okome no Onna" have been announced for seven consecutive days, and it has been revealed that the main cast will include Hayato Sano, Neru Nagahama, Chiba Yudai, and Katsumi Takahashi.
