The dubbing for the new animated film "Gintama: The New Movie - Yoshiwara Enjou," based on Hideaki Sorachi's popular manga "Gintama," has been completed, and the main characters, Yuko Kaida as Tsukuyo, Yuuko Kikuko Inoue as Haruta, Kikuko Inoue as Hiwa, Satoshi Hino as Kamui, and Houchu Otsuka as Abuto, have all provided comments. New cuts featuring the characters they each play have also been released.
Kaida, who plays Tsukuyomi, the leader of Hyakuka, a vigilante group that protects the underground red-light district of Yoshiwara, commented, "In this story of the Yoshiwara Burning Arc, the character Tsukuyomi and the setting of Yoshiwara make their first appearance, and it is a story about the people who live there, all with different backgrounds, fighting and paving the way to move forward, so I think it is a story that will resonate with many people from many different angles. Everyone is the main character, and you can see them all fighting in their own places, and I think you will be able to enjoy the story of the Yoshiwara Burning Arc from a completely different angle to the TV series. If you go back and watch the previous TV series, you will surely see differences in expression and technique, so I hope you will enjoy those differences as well."
Sanpei, who plays Haruta, the boy who is the catalyst for this story for Yorozuya, said, "The dubbing was a lot of fun! I had fun acting, so I think the audience will enjoy it too! I'd be happy if they could laugh out loud and react in the theater, it's that exciting, and it's a work that you can really enjoy...I felt a bit unsure about whether it was okay to make such serious comments about 'Gintama', but 'Gintama' was, after all, 'Gintama'!"
Inoue, who plays Hina, the highest-ranking courtesan in Yoshiwara Paradise, said, "I am thrilled to be playing Hina in the movie. She is a very sad, sweet and affectionate woman, so I put all my heart into the performance. There is laughter and tears... I think this movie will be thoroughly enjoyable for Gintama fans, as well as those who are seeing it for the first time! I hope that the crazy fun and wonderful energy of 'Gintama' will reach people all over the world, transcending borders."
Ginga, who plays Housen, known as the "King of the Night" and who rules over the paradise of Yoshiwara, commented, "The fact that a new movie is being made means that the passion of all the staff is still bubbling away like magma. As a cast member, I am very happy, and I think that 'Gintama' will reach the scale that it will reach in the movie version. To me, if I had to sum up 'Gintama' in one word, it would be 'The North Wind and the Sun - a taste of maturity.' And 'Yoshiwara Burning Arc' is filled with many elements - the socially strong and the weak, as well as honest thoughts, true strength, and sadness. Finally... even if you hate me, please don't hate 'Gintama'."
Hino, who plays Kamui, Kagura's older brother and commander of the 7th Division of the space pirate Harusame, a member of the warrior Yato tribe, said, "I'm really happy that we can now bring you the new Gintama movie, 'Yoshiwara in Flames'! 'Yoshiwara in Flames' is a very important episode for me, as it's the one where I met Kamui, so I'm approaching it with a lot of emotions: nostalgia, gratitude, and also a little bit of worry about whether I can still sing in that high-pitched voice (laughs). I hope you enjoy the release."
Otsuka, who plays Abuto, Kamui's subordinate and deputy commander of the 7th Harusame Division, said, "I have played Abuto for a long time. I realized that I am now over 70 years old, but during that time, whenever I headed to the recording of Gintama, I would always think, 'Ah, I'm back here again.' I have always felt that Gintama is something that has traveled through life with me. For the first time, Abuto shouts, shows his emotions, and speaks his mind. I am proud to have been able to play an amazing Abuto. Please look forward to it."
The new film is a brand new anime adaptation of "Yoshiwara Burning Arc," one of the most exciting and memorable episodes in the original manga's history.
