A Kento Nanami discussion was held between Gege Akutami, who plays Yuji Itadori, Junya Enoki Megumi Fushiguro , who plays Yuji Itadori , and Yuma Uchida , who plays Kento Nanami in the anime " Jujutsu Kaisen ," which is based on the popular manga by Kenjiro Tsuda that was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha), and they talked about the "Shibuya Incident" in the second season of the TV anime.
-What kind of work do you personally consider "Jujutsu Kaisen" to be?
Enoki: This is the work that I receive the most feedback from everyone, and to put it simply, I think that my acting career has been changed by "Jujutsu Kaisen." This work has nurtured me, and it is an important work that I would like to repay with my acting.
It's been over five years since Uchida-san's audition, and I remember that "Shibuya Incident" began serialization right around the time it was announced that he'd been cast as Fushiguro. So it's very moving to see that part animated and become such a popular episode. I personally have many opportunities to visit Shibuya, so I enjoyed imagining what might have happened there, but the quality of the animated footage was even higher than I'd imagined. I feel like I've been enjoying "Jujutsu Kaisen" all this time.
Tsuda: The response to this work has been incredible. Not only in Japan, but there are many passionate fans overseas as well. Two years ago, I went on a trip to Europe, and during my six-day stay, I was approached five times. When I went to Spain this year, I was surprised when some very tough-looking people called me "Tsuda-san." When I asked them how they knew me, they all said "Jujutsu Kaisen." The "Shibuya Incident" was a very difficult season for Nanami, but I realized that I had the opportunity to be involved in such an amazing work, and it was a lot of fun to be a part of it.
--The first major event in the "Shibuya Incident" was the sealing away of Gojo. What did you think of this development?
Tsuda-san thought, "It's bad that Gojo isn't there" (laughs).
Uchida: That's right. If you have someone there, you can have the feeling that "everything will be okay."
Tsuda: I was worried that there was nothing absolute left.
Enoki: When Gojo is sealed away, the balance of power is significantly disrupted, so I thought the battles between the characters would become more intense. However, I personally looked at it with a fairly level head, thinking that this could also be an interesting point. With no overwhelmingly strong character left, I thought we would be able to see each character fight to the best of their abilities.
Even after he was sealed, Gojo was laughing and saying, "Well, I guess it'll work out somehow." I thought, "This is no time to laugh," but even if he was sealed, Satoru Gojo is still Satoru Gojo. Combined with his behavior, it didn't really feel like he was gone, but his absence caused so many terrible events to occur one after another. So I think it was a really big event for Fushiguro and the others.
Tsuda: At first, I thought, "But still..." I thought it would probably come out at a good point (laughs). But it never seemed to come out at all, so I thought that Akutami (Gege) sensei is amazing. Not letting the biggest trump card work is a development that would have been impossible in shonen manga up until now. I felt that this was shonen manga for a new era, and I was reminded once again that he has created an amazing work.
"Jujutsu Kaisen" is a manga that was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) from March 2018 to September 2024. The story follows high school student Yuji Itadori, who is thrown into a world of battles over curses after a powerful "cursed object" is unsealed. The comic series has sold over 100 million copies in total.
The first season of the TV anime aired from October 2020 to March 2021, and the second season, "Kaigyoku/Gyokusetsu/ Shibuya Incident," aired from July to December 2023. The third season, "Culling Game Part 1," will be broadcast nationwide simultaneously on the MBS/TBS anime block "Super Animeism TURBO" every Thursday at 12:26 a.m. starting January 8, 2026.
