It has been announced that the TV anime "Hikuidori Boro Tobi Gumi," based on the popular novel by Naoki Prize-winning author Imamura Shogo, will be broadcast on the CBC TV/TBS anime slot "Agaru Anime" every Sunday at 11:30 pm starting in January 2026. Additional cast members have also been announced, with Koji Yusa, a hot-blooded man who falls in love with the protagonist Matsunaga Gengo's skills and recommends him to the head of the Shinjo Domain Fire Brigade Group in order to rebuild it.
Yusa commented, "This work is based on a historical novel, which I don't think is very common in anime. The language is from that era, so there are many parts that are difficult to express, and it's a rewarding role. Samon is not a firefighter, so he doesn't play an active role at the scene of an emergency, but he has been entrusted with an important role. Please see for yourself. Also appearing in the film are Uchida Naoya as Hojo Rokuemon, the chief retainer of the Shinjo domain; Takumi Yasuaki as Sazanji, the banner bearer of the town fire brigade "I-gumi"; Tsuji Shinpachi as Kingoro, the head of the town fire brigade "I-gumi"; Hisakawa Aya as Akishiro, the mother of Torigoya Shinnosuke; Hai Shinnosuke as Tatsugaseki Moriemon, a popular sumo wrestler and Tora-san's junior disciple; Kana Ichinose as Osuzu, the poster girl of a popular soba restaurant in town; Komura Tetsuo as Hasegawa Heizo Yoshio, the head of the Arson and Theft Control Bureau who is nicknamed "Demon Heizo"; and Miki Shinichiro as Fujigoro, a mysterious character with a brutal personality.
"Hikuidori Ushu Boro Tobi Gumi" is the debut work of Imamura, who is known for works such as "Ikusagami," and is the first in the ongoing " Ushu Boro Tobigumi" series. The story follows Matsunaga Gengo, a firefighter samurai who was once said to be the best in Edo, and his eccentric group of friends who gather around him to save the people of Edo from the disaster of fire.
