It has been announced that the sequel to the 2020 animated film " Poupelle of Chimney Town," based on the picture book by comedian Akihiro Nishino of the comedy duo "King Kong," titled " Poupelle of Chimney Town : The Asadora of Promise," will be released on March 27, 2026. It has also been announced that actor Masataka Kubota will voice Poupelle, as he did in the previous film. Child actor Yuzuna Nagase , who played the heroine's childhood in the NHK morning drama " Anpan " in the first half of 2025, will play the protagonist, Lubicchi.
Kubota commented, "I had always heard from Nishino about his passion for Poupelle and the series, so when I heard that I would be able to meet Poupelle again in the latest production, I was genuinely happy. It didn't feel like five years had passed since the last time, and even though the recording time was short, it was a very intense experience. As we continued, the new characters of Lubitsch and Poupelle became increasingly clear, and just as the bond between the two deepened, their depth increased. This time, the main theme is "believing and waiting." The work, which will pierce your heart with the miracles that Lubitsch and Poupelle bring about, has returned in an upgraded version, so I hope you will experience it at the theater."
Nagase said, "This was my first time trying voice acting, so I was nervous, but Kubota-san helped me to understand the emotional flow of the acting beforehand, so I was able to enjoy the recording. In this version, Lubicchi will do his best to overcome many things in order to meet his beloved Poupelle once again, even though there are some scary things, so I hope that many people will be encouraged by seeing Lubicchi working so hard."
The sequel will be set in the mysterious alternate world of Millennium Fortress, which controls time. A teaser visual has been released, depicting Lubicchi and Poupelle atop the hands of a large clock, along with the tagline, "I want to see you again." The silhouette of Millennium Fortress is visible on the clock face.
A Teaser trailer was also released on YouTube. The video begins with Lubicchi standing in the forest crying out sadly, "If I go any further, my loved ones will have nowhere to return to!" Lubicchi's partner, Moff, who appears in the sequel, looks on worriedly. In addition to Poupelle, new characters also appear, including a woman with bright red hair and light blue and orange decorations, and a woman with green eyes.
Advance tickets for the movie will go on sale at Major and other theaters on November 21st. The design features Lubicchi, Moff, and the rats from the Millennium Fortress.
The sequel will be a significantly larger-scale production based on the picture book "Tick-Tock: The Promised Clock Tower," released in 2019. One year after the miraculous night when Chimney Town was enveloped in a starry sky, a young boy named Lubicchi loses his beloved best friend Poupelle. He continues to believe that they will reunite, but gives up in order to move forward. Meanwhile, Lubicchi finds himself lost in the Millennium Fortress, a mysterious alternate world that controls time... This is the story. Following on from the previous film, original author Nishino will serve as executive producer and scriptwriter, with Hirota Yusuke as director. As with the previous film, it will be produced by STUDIO4℃.
