On October 21st, actor Yo Oizumi attended a press conference at TV Asahi headquarters (Minato Ward, Tokyo) for the drama "A Little Esper" (Tuesdays at 9pm), which he stars in and which starts that evening, along with co-star Aoi Miyazaki and screenwriter Akiko Nogi. He praised Miyazaki, who is appearing in a drama series for the first time in about 13 years.
The drama is based on an original script by Nogi, known for works such as "Unnatural" and "MIU404." After being fired from his job and divorcing his wife, Bunta (Oizumi), a salaryman at rock bottom, passes the entrance exam for a mysterious company called "Nonamare" and becomes a "slight psychic" who saves the world. Miyazaki plays Shiki, a mysterious woman who believes Bunta is her husband.
When asked about her impressions of the two, Nogi commented, "Oizumi-san is as expected, and Miyazaki-san is so cute! I knew it, but I also felt that she was good at acting." She continued, "(Shiki) is a difficult role. I think viewers will have a hard time grasping it at first, and the actors will have a hard time grasping it too, but they've done a great job."
Oizumi also nodded and said, "It may be rude to say this, but she hasn't had much exposure up until now. I was reminded once again of how amazing Aoi Miyazaki is." He praised her, saying, "Her 'cuteness' inevitably comes to the forefront. She's not just cute, she's amazing. Simply put, she's talented."
Oizumi, who has previously co-starred with Miyazaki as brother and sister, said with a smile, "I only got a glimpse of her charm last time. This time, I was reminded once again of what an incredible person she is, and what a great actress she is. I've been telling a lot of people recently, ' Aoi Miyazaki is amazing.'"
Miyazaki smiled and said, "The set is filled with lovely people and the schedule is tough, but everyone's kindness prevails. It's been a while since I last worked on a drama, but I was happy to be involved in this project."
