The regular broadcast of the popular NHK Special series "Unsolved Cases" (General TV, Saturdays at 10pm) will begin on October 4th. The first episode on the same day will be the first part of the "Hachioji Supermarket Robbery and Murder Case" that took place in Hachioji, Tokyo in 1995.
In 1995, three women, including a high school student, who worked at the Nanpei supermarket in Hachioji City, were shot in the head and killed. A bullet had been fired into the safe, but the approximately 5 million yen inside remained untouched.
With little physical evidence and an unclear motive, the identity of the perpetrator keeps emerging and disappearing. Thirty years later, the perpetrator has still not been identified. How far has the investigation progressed, and what has been the obstacle? The reporting team analyzed a vast amount of past investigative materials and interviewed over 200 people involved, delving into the depths of this unsolved case that has been etched in the history of crime in the Heisei era.
"Unsolved Cases" is a popular series on NHK Special that began airing in 2011 and unravels historical cases through thorough investigative reporting. It will begin airing as a regular program in October, unearthing new facts and testimonies, while also highlighting connections to the present day and lessons learned. Announcer Mayuko Wakuda will serve as the Caster and main narrator.
