Machiko Ono: First appearance in CalorieMate commercial in 25 years

It has been announced that actress Machiko Ono will be appearing in a new TV commercial for Otsuka Pharmaceutical's nutritional food product "Calorie Mate," titled "Summer Vacation with Monsters." This is the first time Ono has appeared in a Calorie Mate commercial in about 25 years. At the time, she played the role of a high school girl, but this time she will play the role of a mother raising two boys.

The new commercial was released on YouTube ahead of its broadcast on July 19th. It depicts a scene from a family during summer vacation, featuring two energetic brothers who look like "monsters" running around the house. Highlights include "children's typical" summer vacation moments, such as the kids getting hungry after playing in the pool and coming to check on the kitchen, as well as the unique direction in which the children alternate between realistic monster and human forms, and Ono's gentle gaze.

Ono commented, "The last time I appeared in a CalorieMate commercial was 25 years ago. In fact, it was my first commercial since my debut. I was really happy to be asked to appear in such a memorable commercial again, and it made me feel how quickly time has passed, as I played the role of a mother this time, after playing a high school girl last time."

Looking back on the filming, he said, "I wanted to portray the realistic portrayal of parents who are always thinking of their children and working hard, even in the midst of their hectic days. The two child actors were always energetic, and from the first day they played together like real brothers. They got so close that there were even scenes during breaks that were like sibling fights. It was a very lively and fun set."

She also added, "I hope that this commercial will resonate with parents as they approach their summer vacation and make them feel even a little more positive, and I hope that children who are still growing up will be able to spend this time fruitfully."
