TBS Sunday Theatre's " The 19th medical record " starring Jun Matsumoto (Sunday 9pm, 15 minutes longer for the first episode) will begin on July 13th. It is based on Fujiya Katsuhito's manga " The 19th medical record: Tokushige Akira's Medical Examination" (serialised on Core Mix/web comic site Zenon Editorial Department). It tells the story of a general practitioner who not only treats illnesses but also lends a helping hand to patients' lifestyles. The script is written by Tsubota Aya, who also wrote the "Kounodori" series (TBS).
Matsumoto plays Akira Tokushige, a doctor in the general medicine department, which was newly established as the 19th medical department at Uotora General Hospital, Fuka Koshiba, a novice orthopedic doctor with a strong sense of justice, and Mackenyu Arata plays Kojiro, a surgeon and son of the head of surgery, Mackenyu(Nariyuki Ikeda). This is Matsumoto's first time taking on a doctor role.
Episode 1: Advanced Japanese medical care is divided into 18 specialized fields. Each specialist examines and treats patients, but there are also issues such as patients with complex symptoms who don't know which department to go to, or patients being passed around from department to department. General medicine was created to solve these problems. However, the existence and significance of general medicine has not yet been fully understood by the public or among doctors.
The Uotora General Hospital, which is the core of the local medical care of a certain town, is going to establish a new general medicine department. The hospital director, Kitano Eikichi (Namase Katsuhisa), who decided to establish the new department on his own initiative, is waiting for the general medicine doctor to arrive.
At the same time, a female patient, Momo Kuroiwa (Riisa Naka), who complains of pain all over her body, is examined at the orthopedic department of the hospital. Although the examination reveals no abnormalities, Momo cannot hide her irritation during the 10-minute consultation.
Yokobuki Junichi (Rokube Naomasa), who is also hospitalized in the orthopedic department, is also complaining about his dissatisfaction with the doctors, giving Mizuki Takino (Koshiba), his doctor, a hard time. Yokobuki is hospitalized with a broken leg, but he complains about his sore throat and gets on Takino, saying, "You're a doctor, but you can't even cure a cold?" Takino is an orthopedic surgeon, so sore throats are outside of his expertise, but he can't argue with her.
The atmosphere in the hospital is tense with patients dissatisfied with the doctors. Meanwhile, a man calling himself a "general practitioner" named Akira Tokushige (Matsumoto) appears...
