An advance screening and talk event for the TV anime "Silent Witch: The Secret of the Silent Witch," based on the light novel by Iku Matsuri, popular on the novel posting site "Shosetsuka ni Naro," was held in Tokyo on June 21. Saya Aizawa, who plays the main character Monica Everett, said that this is her first lead role in an anime, "It's really, really good! I'm so happy to have come across such a great work," and called on people to "please keep an eye on Monica's growth."
Also appearing at the event were Shogo Sakata, who plays Felix Arc Ryddill, Atsumi Tanezaki, who plays Isabel Norton, and Junichi Suwabe, who plays Lewis Miller.
Monica, played by Aizawa, is one of the Seven Sages, the pinnacle of magicians in the Kingdom of Ridil, and is a young genius, but extremely shy. Aizawa said, "I'm not used to conversation. But I still treasured the feelings that I like the things I like," and there are scenes where she becomes very talkative when it comes to her favorite subject, mathematics, and said, "I had the lines for the audition, so I practiced a lot."
The beautiful visuals of the scenes where the magic is activated are also a highlight, and Aizawa-san's eyes sparkled as he said, "Each magic is beautiful and delicate, and it's beautifully rendered into the image... I really felt that." Tanezaki-san also seemed to be moved by the beautiful visuals, praising them, saying, "It's so wonderful that it's hard to put into words what I felt..."
The work is a light novel written by Matsuri Iku and illustrated by Nanna Fujimi. Set in a world where humans no longer use chanting and can no longer use magic, it depicts the exploits of Monica Everett, a young genius magician known as the Silent Witch, who created the first chantless magic in history. Although Monica is one of the Seven Sages, the pinnacle of magicians in the Kingdom of Ridil, she is extremely shy and nervous around people, and retreats to the mountains to quietly study magic, but is ordered to infiltrate a prestigious school where aristocrats gather and take on a top-secret mission to protect the second prince.
The light novel is published by Kadokawa Books (KADOKAWA), and the comic book adaptation is also gaining popularity. The total number of copies of the series has exceeded 1 million. It will be broadcast on TOKYO MX, BS11 and other stations from July 4th.
