The garrison where Takashi and his Kokura regiment were stationed was also isolated by a heavy enemy attack, and Takashi decided to return to his original unit. With their supply lines cut off, they were forced to save on food, and until a relief team arrived, they were limited to just two meals a day, breakfast and dinner. Only thin rice porridge was distributed, and the battle against hunger began.
