Kazunari Ninomiya recently attended a press conference in Tokyo for his first new book, "Dokudan to Biyon" (Shueisha), which will be released on June 17th. Ninomiya, who revealed that he "ego searches" on a regular basis, explained the reason why.
Ninomiya reveals, "In the past, fan letters were the most common. There was nothing else. But now I've been able to do something called ego searching, and it's really broadened my horizons. I don't do that much with movies, but when it comes to TV series and ongoing shows, I thoroughly examine them."
"If the acting was bad or the same as always, that's one thing, but if the plot was predictable or strange, I think, 'I see. What should I do?' I'm not doing this to change those opinions, but if there's something that I think could be improved, I'll work on it thoroughly. However, since the movie is already finished, no matter what opinions I see, I can't help but think, 'No, it's already finished' (laughs)."
He says that he has always been "quite strong and able to confront" opinions online, and that "I thoroughly absorb opinions, and when I find something that makes sense, I borrow it and sometimes share it with the whole group."
"During season two of 'Black Pean' (TBS), the drama she stars in, I had been thinking about using classical music in the surgery scenes and had been putting it together in my own way, but then people who are really into classical music said, 'Wouldn't this song be better for that?' And when I heard that, I was like, 'Ah, I see!' That's how I perceived it, how I faced it, and how we coexisted."
"Doctrine and Prejudice" is a book in which Ninomiya, now in his 40s, talks freely about what he has thought up until now and what he is thinking now. He tackles a total of 100 questions on the theme of 10 four-character idioms. Shinsho format, 192 pages. Price: 1,100 yen.
