The final episode of the TBS Sunday Theatre drama " Caster " (Sunday 9:00 p.m.), starring Hiroshi Abe , aired on June 15th. Viewers were surprised by the unexpected development and ending.
◇The following contains spoilers
43 years ago, Shindo's ( Hiroshi Abe) father, Tetsu (Yamaguchi Makiya), and Kunisada (Hideki Takahashi) were covering the crash of a Self-Defense Force transport plane. Shindo questions Kunisada about why Tetsu's article was not published, and goes back to the cave to find out the truth, only to be trapped inside.
Meanwhile, JBN is heavily criticized due to a weekly magazine scandal alleging that Newsgate's editor-in-chief, Ichinose (Emma Miyazawa), has ties to anti-social forces, as well as the theory that Chief Cabinet Secretary Hanyu (Kitaoji Kinya) was murdered and Kunisada's involvement, and its stock price plummets.
However, after being rescued, Shindo discovers that during Kunisada's press conference, broadcast live on Newsgate, it was Kageyama (Ishibashi Renji), not Kunisada, who poisoned Hanyu. Kageyama is arrested.
Afterwards, Shindo tells Kunisada that the reason the Self-Defense Force transport plane crash 43 years ago was covered up was because the material being transported was plutonium, which posed a risk of radiation leakage, and threatens to leak the information to a weekly magazine if Kunisada does not confess to the murder of his father, Tetsu.
However, Kunisada confesses the truth of what happened 43 years ago to Shindo. In fact, there was no risk of radiation leaking, and if the article were to be published, it would cause damage to the company's reputation. Therefore, Tetsu promises Hanyu and Kazuo (Yamamoto Manabu) not to publish the article, on the condition that Hanyu, as a politician, takes responsibility for disposing of the radioactive material.
However, due to a mistake by Kunisada, who was a rookie employee, the existence of the article reached Kageyama's ears, and Kageyama, who misunderstood that Tetsu was about to be published, had Tetsu killed.
Shindo still wants to publish an article to expose the mastermind, but Kunisada reveals that the plutonium was planned to be transported to a US military base for use in nuclear weapons. Kunisada says that if this truth, which goes against the three non-nuclear principles, comes to light, anti-American sentiment will grow and Japan will be divided. Shindo is troubled, but decides not to report the story in exchange for Kunisada's resignation.
At the end of the film, it is revealed that the members of Together Space, Kageyama's execution force, have been rounded up, and it is also revealed that the perpetrators of the crimes Shindo has been pursuing have been caught. However, the leader of the group has escaped, and the perpetrator who stabbed Shindo's ex-wife remains unknown. Under instructions from the person believed to be the leader, a mysterious man (Takuto Teranishi) keeps an eye on Shindo's daughter, Sumire (Horikoshi Reika).
The unexpected truth that could shake up Japan and the ending that suggests there may be a sequel have led to comments from viewers such as, "There are still things that haven't been revealed, so I hope there will be a sequel," and "We were misled by both the murderer and the mastermind."
