It was revealed on June 11th that a sequel to the TBS Sunday Theatre drama "VIVANT" (Sundays at 9pm), starring Masato Sakai and broadcast in July 2023, will be broadcast in the same time slot in 2026 (date to be determined). Sakai held a press conference after appearing live on the station's morning information program "THE TIME," (Monday to Friday at 5:20am) on the same day.
Sakai said that after reading the script, "I yelled at the end of the second series. I thought, 'What am I going to do with that?'" Fukuzawa Katsuo is in charge of the original story, direction and production. Fukuzawa, who will once again team up with Sakai in an unbeatable tag team, also attended the press conference. Regarding filming, Fukuzawa said, "We'll mostly be shooting overseas," with filming to take place over the course of about three months, and revealed that the location is "a very pro-Japanese country, but not many Japanese people know about it. It's a place with mythical legends." Sakai said, "I went to that country's pavilion at the (Osaka/Kansai) Expo. I can't wait."
The sequel will be a continuation of the story that begins immediately after the last scene of the first film, and there will be no changes to the setting of the main character, Nogi Yusuke, played by Sakai. Other cast members besides Sakai will be announced in the future. Kazutaka Iida will be the producer. The first film was shot on a grand scale in Mongolia, which drew much attention, and the sequel will also be shot overseas, traveling around the world.
