Entertainer Dan Mitsu appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) broadcast on June 2nd. In 2019, she talked about her "positive, living-apart marriage" with manga artist Toru Seino, what happened after that, and when she brought up the topic of divorce.
"The separation is still continuing. Kiyono is currently drawing manga and has started a new serialization, so he is very busy," he said. He was hospitalized twice in the year before last, spending about 40% of the year in hospitals. At that time, he said he considered divorce.
"There was a period when the medicine wasn't working very well, and above all, I felt like I was causing trouble for my husband...When I thought about how much trouble I was causing for everyone - my father, my mother, my family, my manager, and especially Kiyono - I lost confidence and wondered whether I should be with Kiyono," she said.
When Kiyono mentioned the topic of divorce, she said, "I was really surprised, and I think I hid my shock. But I said, 'I want to be your support, and I want to support you, but that won't change.'" Looking back, she said, "I think the fact that it didn't go in the direction of, 'Well, if you say so, then there's nothing I can do about it's the reason I'm who I am today."
Dan Mitsu said, "I hope we can do our best together. I thought that if my family and manager were around, I would feel like I could return to normal life," and added, "When I was first hospitalized, I was overwhelmed with my own concerns. In those times, Kiyono called and emailed me every day, and she was a big presence. She supported me." As work that had been stopped started to return, and the serialization that the editor had been waiting for started to return, she said, "I started to feel more confident little by little."
