It has been announced that the TV anime " Kaiju No. 8 ", based on the popular manga by Naoya Matsumoto , currently being serialized on Shueisha's manga app "Shonen Jump+", will be broadcast on TV Tokyo and other networks every Saturday at 11pm starting July 19th. It was also announced that following the first season, it will be streamed in real time all over the world on X. The spinoff "Hoshina's Holiday", which was shown at the same time as the first season's omnibus, will be broadcast on TV Tokyo and other networks from 1pm on July 5th, and will also be streamed in real time all over the world on X. The key visual for the second season was also released, depicting Hibino Kafka Hibino(Kaiju No. 8), who is now a member of the 1st Unit, known as the strongest unit in Japan, along with Kikoru Shinomiya, the unit's captain Gen Narumi, and Shinomiya Isao, the commander of the Japan Defense Forces.
It was also announced that an original character, Shinomiya Sagan, will appear in the game "Kaiju No. 8 THE GAME." She will be Kikoru Shinomiya's "unrelated older sister," and will be voiced by Akari Kito.
"Kaiju No. 8" has been serialized in "Shonen Jump+" since July 2020. Set in Japan, a monster superpower where monsters mercilessly invade everyday life, the story follows the adventures of the protagonist, Kafka Hibino, whose body has been transformed into a monster by a mysterious creature. It also attracted attention in 2021 when it was selected as the grand prize winner in the web manga category of the "Next Manga Awards 2021." The comic has sold over 18 million copies in Japan.
The anime is produced by Production IG, which has worked on the Ghost in the Shell series, and Studio Khara, which has worked on the Evangelion: New Theatrical Edition series, is in charge of monster design and works. The first season of the TV anime aired from April to June 2024.
