It has been announced that the drama series "Good evening, this is the Asayama family," starring actors Nakamura Anne and Ozawa Yukiyoshi, will be broadcast on ABC TV and TV Asahi in the 10:15pm Sunday slot in July. This will be the first time the two have acted together, and they will play a married couple. The family drama follows a "disappointing husband" and an "angry wife" as they overcome difficult family problems despite repeated clashes. This will be Nakamura's first lead role in a GP (golden primetime) drama series.
The script was written by Adachi Shin, who also wrote the NHK Asadora drama "Boogie Woogie" for the second half of 2023, and is based on his own serialized diary "Moving Forward Backwards."
The protagonists, the married couple, are the Asayama family, a family of four with two children. The husband, Kenta (Ozawa), is a scriptwriter working on popular TV dramas, and is so desperate to be recognized that he neglects housework and child-rearing and spends his time on ego-searching. The one who raised this "pathetic husband" to become a representative scriptwriter was his wife, Asako (Nakamura), who supported him financially and emotionally even when he was not yet successful, and who also took care of the housework and child-rearing. However, Asako is irritated with Kenta every day and has become an "angry wife."
Nakamura commented, "I myself have never had any experience of marriage or raising children, so it was a completely unknown world to me. When I expressed my concerns to the director, he said, 'You don't need to know,' which was very reassuring. I have always been interested in family stories, so when I heard about the role, I thought this is my chance! and jumped at the chance with great joy."
"I tend to have somewhat idealistic ideas about marriage and child-rearing, but through this production I felt that the reality of family life might not be so sweet (laughs). But still, I am envious and think families are wonderful.I will do my best to play Asako, so I hope you will look forward to it!"
Ozawa said, "It's a story about one small family, the Asayama family, but I think everyone who watches it will be able to empathize with it, thinking, "I know people like that," or "I worry about things like this," or "I get into fights," and how they feel, even though it's something that doesn't really matter. I think you'll be able to enjoy the drama more deeply if you watch it with the perspective that it could be a story about your own family."
