Actor Hideki Takahashi will be appearing on BS12 TwellV's program "Tsurube-chan and Sawako-chan: Showa's Great Senpai and the Odd Two," which will be broadcast from 9:00 pm on April 21st. The preview for the program shows phrases such as "Short legs were the trigger for his popularity?!", "Frequent visits to Ginza," and "40 million yen in debt," as well as the narrator saying, "You'd think this would be a bold legend..." and Takahashi revealing, "I can't drink (alcohol) at all. I can't drink at all."
The program is a talk variety show hosted by Rakugo performer Shofutei Tsurube and essayist Agawa Sawako, and began in October last year. Tsurube, who has 52 years of showbiz experience, and Agawa, who has 40 years of showbiz experience, are called "Tsurube-chan" and "Sawako-chan," and are "great seniors of the Showa era." They appear as guests in each episode.
The guest on this day will be Takahashi, a "period drama star" who has appeared in as many as 78 movies in a year. He will talk about his early days as an actor, from his mischievous childhood when he would try to catch Japanese rat snakes and make kabayaki (grilled eels), to his days in high school when he was so popular that the train he rode on to school was always full of high school girls, to the inside story of his Nikkatsu audition.
Takahashi will also share stories about Asaoka Ruriko, who co-starred with him in the film "Takagenji" and whom he regards as his mentor, as well as stories about his wife Mieko, with whom he has been married for 50 years, and his daughter Maasa, and will also perform an imitation of senior actor Ichikawa Utaemon.
