It was announced on January 25th that Mikio Date and Takeshi Tomizawa of the comedy duo "Sandwich Man" will be appearing as guest voice actors in the latest Doraemon: Nobita's Art World Tales " Doraemon ", the 44th film in the series. The announcement was made on their titular program "Sandwich Man & Mana Ashida's Hakase-chan" (TV Asahi, Saturday 6:56pm) that aired on the same day. This will be the first time that Sandwich Man will appear in the " Doraemon the Movie" series.
In "Sandwichman & Mana Ashida's Doctor-chan,"Doraemon appeared as a special guest and performed a trio comedy act, saying, "We are 'Sandrawitchman'!". During the comedy act on the theme of "recommended movies," it was revealed that the two members of Sandwichman will be guest voice actors in "Doraemon: Nobita's Art World Tales." Date will play the king of the Principality of Arturia, the world inside a painting that is the setting of the latest work, and Tomizawa will play a critic who explains a mysterious painting that was discovered in the present day.
Date said, "The first movie I ever saw was ' Doraemon : Nobita's Dinosaur' (1980), so I thought it was a dream come true to be able to be involved in a series that I've watched all this time, and I was very happy." Tomizawa expressed his joy, saying, "When I heard about the role, I was surprised that I'd been offered the role of Doraemon. I think the first movie that people of my generation saw was ' Doraemon: Nobita Dinosaur'! I'm happy I was able to be a part of it."
Regarding his voice acting, Date said, "I practiced at home before recording, but there were more voice acting than I expected that wasn't in the script, like 'ah' and 'o', so it took more than six hours. Also, when I listened to it from the beginning after recording, I realized that the character's voice was completely different at the beginning and the end, so I had to record it again. I realized that it's difficult to keep using the same voice over and over. Matsumoto Yasunori, who plays Nobita's Dad, was very helpful in teaching me. I have tried my hand at voice acting a little in the past, but it is really difficult work. I tried to act in a way that wouldn't leave viewers thinking, 'That's Date's voice.' It was difficult, but a lot of fun."
Tomizawa said, "The role of the critic was difficult to act because there were emotional ups and downs even in short scenes, but when I heard how long it took for Date to record, I realized that I had finished quite quickly. During the dubbing, I couldn't help but focus on matching my voice to the movement of the images, but I learned a lot from the fact that I have to act out different emotions to match the character's facial expressions. Like Date, I didn't want to make the character sound too much like Tomizawa, so I changed the tone of my voice a little."
The latest film is the 45th anniversary work of the "Doraemon the Movie" series. The setting is "the world inside the painting," where Doraemon and Nobita and friends meet in the painting and face off against a powerful enemy over the phantom jewel. It is directed by Teramoto Yukiyo, who directed the TV anime "Doraemon" and became the first female director of the series with "Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's New Great Adventure into the Underworld ~The Seven Magicians~" in 2007, and Ito Kimishi, who has written many screenplays for the TV anime "Doraemon," is in charge of the script for the "Doraemon the Movie" series for the first time. It is scheduled to be released on March 7th.
