The popular novel "Until the Shosetsuka ni Naro on the novel submission site "Shosetsuka ni Narou," will be adapted into a TV anime and will begin airing in January 2027. Hideki Okamoto will direct, Takao Yoshioka will handle series composition, Yu Murakami will design the characters, Yuki Hayashi, Luke Standridge, and Asa Taylor will compose the music, and JCSTAFF will produce the animation. Starry Cube will produce the series. It was also announced that Reiji Kawashima will voice the main character Wim Strauss and Hana Hishikawa Hishikawa will voice Heidmarie. A visual depicting Wim fighting with a machete and enchantment magic has been released.
This popular work is currently being serialized as a manga in "Manga Gau Gau" and "Gau Gau Monster Plus" (Futabasha), and the series has sold over 3.5 million copies in total. Wim Strauss, who supported the party as an enchanter who could buff weapons and equipment, is expelled from the party for hurting the leader's pride, but his true power is discovered by his childhood friend and stalker, Heidmarie, and he becomes a member of the largest party. The enchanter, who was treated as a mere errand boy, eventually realizes "his own strength," and the gears of the story begin to turn dramatically.
Kawashima, who plays Vim, said, "Personally, the biggest appeal of this work is that it doesn't just end as a simple 'banishment story,' but delves deeply into the meticulous 'reconstruction of the mind'! I love how the process of Vim, who had his confidence taken away in an unreasonable environment, redefining his own value through meeting new companions is depicted with great care!" Regarding Vim, he said, "He looks timid and cowardly, but I felt that he is actually a 'super-precise craftsman' with a supercomputer built into his brain. I think it's great that when the profession of 'enchanter' is applied to Vim, it becomes not just magic but 'the ultimate optimization of physical functions.' I hope you will pay attention to how Vim's uniqueness and humanity are expressed through his 'unique way of laughing.'"
Hishikawa, who plays Heidmarie, said, "She's a girl who shows a lot of different expressions! When she expresses her feelings to Vim directly, or when she shows various inappropriate expressions of love that she can't let Vim see... and the face she shows when she's drunk or when she's fighting... I thought she was an incredibly fun and emotionally expressive girl to have by your side. And seeing how she embraces everything about Vim, I want to portray her with the same kind of love that embraces her."
Original author Tokura Hakou commented, "This is Tokura, the original author. We are pleased to announce that the series will be made into an anime. We are already receiving overwhelming support from so many people, and I am humbled that there will be even more to come. I truly believe this is a wonderful work. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to manga artist Arakawa (Shin), illustrator Shirai (Eiri), everyone at Futabasha, everyone involved in the publication and distribution of this work, and all the readers. More announcements regarding the anime adaptation will be made sequentially from now on, but the cast, from the visuals and music to the voice actors, is incredibly luxurious. They are wonderful people with undeniable skill, talent, and a deep love for the work. I hope you will look forward to it and stay tuned for further updates."
Shin Arakawa, who is in charge of the comic adaptation, said, "I can finally say it. It's going to be an anime. It's been about four and a half years since the serialization began. The topic came up early on, but it's finally come to an announcement. Now I don't have to evade the question from relatives and friends, 'Is it going to be an anime?' There are still some things I can't talk about yet that make me wonder, 'Is this a dream?' I'm so excited and nervous. All of this is thanks to the readers who have been supporting us! Thank you so much!!"
Character designer Eiri Shirai commented, "Congratulations on the anime adaptation! As the person who designed the characters, I am very happy that the work will spread in a new form. I sincerely hope that it will become a work that will be loved by many people! With respect to everyone involved in the production and gratitude to all the readers who have continued to support us."
Director Okamoto said, "The original work is appealing because of its deep worldview that expands in many directions, and it's fun just to read it, but translating that into animation is a task of consolidating all those possibilities into one, so I'm working with writer Yoshioka and the designers with a mix of nervousness and enjoyment. We will do our best to deliver a film that lives up to the passion that the original has created, so I hope you will look forward to it until the day it airs."
Series composition writer Yoshioka commented, "In adapting this work into an anime, we made an effort to expand the story further by incorporating elements from the original novel while basing it on the excellent basic structure of the comic version. Together with director Okamoto, we have carefully depicted the dangerous and unfathomable side of Vim, who has an extremely low opinion of himself but wields the forbidden art of enchantment, as well as his interactions with his 'Night Dragonfly' companions. Please look forward to it."
