There has been a lot of buzz surrounding the release of the Gunpla "HG 1/144 Sayla's Light Cannon" (Bandai Spirits), a Gunpla based on Sayla's light cannon that appears in the popular anime "Gundam" series, "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX." Pre-orders began on August 4th on Bandai Namco Group's shopping site, "Premium Bandai," and the popular item "sold out immediately." "Sayla" refers to Sayla Mass, who also appears in the first work in the series, "Mobile Suit Gundam." So, what is a light cannon?
◇Is he the Newtype who defeated Vice Admiral Dozle?
The Light Cannon was originally the Earth Federation Forces' main mass-produced MS (Mobile Suit). In "GQuuuuuuX," Char Aznable's capture of the Gundam and Pegasus caused a major disruption to the Earth Federation Forces' MS development plans, resulting in the development of the Light Cannon, a machine that combined the close combat capabilities of the Gundam's development data with the artillery combat capabilities of the Guncannon.
The standard version is red, just like the Guncannon, but the unit used by Sayla Mass is a tricolor of white, blue, and red.
Sayla Mass's mobile suit appears in the early theatrical release of "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-" and episode 8 of the TV anime. It fights against the red Gundam piloted by Char. In the anime, it only appears in the battle scene with Char, but Char's line, "Is that the Federation Newtype who killed Vice Admiral Dozle?" suggests that it played an active role in the One Year War.
◇Hammer throwing too!
The Gunpla version of Sayla's light cannon was announced as a commercial product at the 63rd Shizuoka Hobby Show held in May, and has been a hot topic. The tricolor color scheme is reproduced with molded color. It also comes with the hammer weapon that was so impressive in the movie. It seems that you can even recreate the hammer throwing scene.
The "HG 1/144 Sayla's Custom Light Cannon" was "instantly sold out," but Premium Bandai's Gunpla are sometimes accepting additional pre-orders, so future developments are anticipated. Even if there are additional units, it may be a scramble for them...
