A film adaptation project for Keigo Shinzo's manga "Hirayasumi," currently serialized in "Weekly Big Comic Spirits" (Shogakukan), has begun, and it has been revealed that it will be made into an anime and a live-action drama. The work is a slice-of-life manga set in a single-story detached house, and was ranked third in the Manga Taisho 2022 Awards and was also nominated for the Manga Taisho Award at the 27th Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize in 2023. The comic has sold over 1.1 million copies worldwide.
The anime will be produced by Production +h, which has produced "The Orbital Children" and "Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction," with Shogakukan Shueisha Productions serving as the production committee. The live-action drama will be broadcast this fall on NHK General TV's "Yoru Dora" time slot (Monday to Thursday at 10:45).
Original author Shinzo contributed a newly drawn illustration, saying, "I'm so happy that it's being made into an anime and a drama! I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product!"
"Hira Yasumi" has been serialized in "Weekly Big Comic Spirits" since 2021. It depicts the daily life of 29-year-old part-time worker Ikuta Hiroto and his 18-year-old cousin Natsumi, who live in a detached one-story house. Hiroto inherits a detached one-story house from a neighborhood grandmother and begins living with Natsumi, who moved to Tokyo from Yamagata. The story is about people who gather around him with troubles that make life difficult. The latest 9th volume of the comic will be released on July 30th.
