The third episode of the TV drama "PJ ~Air Rescue Team~" (TV Asahi, Thursdays 9pm), starring actor Seiyo Uchino, will be broadcast on May 8th.
Students are undergoing a year of hellish training to become pararescue jumpers (PJs) for the Air Rescue Team. They are finally beginning to develop a sense of camaraderie and are facing numerous challenges.
As the grueling sea training approaches, the training begins in the pool, where the crew must patrol underwater while still breathing. Hasebe (Aoto Watanabe) loses consciousness as he struggles to breathe, and Shirakawa (Kentaro Maeda) is overcome with fear when he sees this.
Shirakawa grew up in an orphanage and aspires to be a hero to his fellow trainees. He was the top performer when he passed the exam, and was relied upon by the other trainees. Although Shirakawa pretends to be calm and acts strong, he has flashbacks of Sayaka (Anna Ishii), who drowned during a previous training session, and Hasebe, and he can't stop trembling. His fellow trainees feel something is off when they see Shirakawa immersed in reckless training as if to shake off his fear. And Usami (Uchino), the instructor who saw through Shirakawa's weakness before anyone else...
While his classmates worry about Shirakawa, the day arrives for them to board the rescue helicopter "UH-60J" and train at sea. Somehow suppressing their extreme tension and fear, the students begin preparations for the landing, but something strange happens to Shirakawa. While his classmates are shocked, Usami makes a decision.
One day, Usami's ex-wife Mako (Kyoka Suzuki) shows up at the rescue training team's instructor's room.
The drama was produced with the full cooperation of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, and the script was written by Izumi Takahashi. It depicts trainees aiming to become rescuers, commonly known as PJs, of the Air Self-Defense Force Air Rescue Wing, an elite rescue unit known as the "last stronghold" for saving lives, as they go through rigorous training under the strict and unconventional chief instructor, Usami.
