The sixth episode of the drama series " Taigan no Kaji ~Kore ga, Watashi no Ikiru Michi~" (TBS, Tuesdays at 10pm), starring actress Mikako Tabe , aired on May 6th. There was a scene in which working mother Nagano Reiko ( Noriko Eguchi) tells Shiho (Tabe) and others that a senior colleague had told her that "buffets and life are similar," which became a hot topic on social media.
◇The following contains spoilers
Reiko thought that Yoko (Kataoka Reiko), her senior from her days in the sales department, would be a suitable person to be the speaker at an in-house lecture and the "role model" for the company. However, she found out that she, a woman with a child, was chosen as the role model, instead of Yoko, who was single, and she wondered, "Why me?"
Reiko confided these thoughts to Shiho (Tabe) and Nakatani (Dean Fujioka). "Buffets and life are similar. That's what my senior told me. You have to think carefully about what you put on your plate," she said, revealing Yoko's story.
Shiho looked convinced by what Reiko had said. "It's a buffet, as that senior said. It would be unpleasant if someone just put food on your plate and said, 'This is delicious, so eat it,'" she agreed.
Shiho further said the same thing about role models, stating, "When you say role model, I feel like you're forcing a role on someone. I'm just living the life I've chosen, but they're saying you're suitable to be a role model or not. I feel like it's wrong to have a role forced on someone without their consent."
Hearing Shiho's opinion, Reiko nodded vigorously...
On social media, there were a stream of comments such as, "Life is like a buffet, you choose what you like and put it on your plate. You don't want other people to put things on your plate without your permission. You choose your own role models. That's right," "Life is like a buffet. Just putting that vague, incomprehensible feeling into words made me feel a little clearer," "Life is a buffet - good point," and "The buffet analogy was brilliant."
