◇The following contains spoilers.
In the final episode, Sachiko (Sasaki) and Makoto find Reina in the music room where Sachiko was stabbed by Reina 14 years ago. Sachiko and Makoto urge Reina to turn herself in, but Reina is unable to feel guilty and looks puzzled. Reina says she loved Sachiko like an older sister and offers a lip service apology while reminiscing about the time they spent together. She reaches for the scissors, but Makoto stops her. Makoto then begins to tell the reason why Reina killed Sachiko's father.
Reina killed Sachiko's father to prevent Makoto from finding out the truth about the death of Makoto's mother, which was revealed by Sachiko's father and his colleague who were investigating the incident. Sachiko gets angry and grabs Reina, but Reina attacks Sachiko with scissors in her hand. But at that moment, Makoto steps in and is stabbed by Reina... and so the story unfolds.
Makoto collapses to the floor, and as Sachiko rushes to call an ambulance, he tells her, "It's okay. This is finally... over." To a tearful and distraught Reina, he tells her, "Reina, you'll be okay. You'll be able to cry for me. You'll be able to cry for other people, too," and continues, murmuring, "Please take care of me." Then, placing his hands on Reina's face, Makoto tells her, "Reina... I love you," and dies.
On social media, Makoto's death and final words became a hot topic, with comments such as "What a sad ending," "It's amazing that he could tell Reina that he loved her," "Maybe Makoto loved Reina in his own way...that's sad too," and "It's so sad, it's heartbreaking."
