◇The following contains spoilers.
In the final episode, Sachiko (Sasaki) and Makoto (Inoue Yuki) find Reina in the music room where Sachiko was stabbed by Reina 14 years ago. Sachiko encourages Reina to turn herself in, but Reina looks puzzled. She then says that she loved Sachiko like an older sister, and after making a lip service apology while reminiscing about the time they spent together, she picks up the scissors. However, Makoto stops her arm, and begins to tell the reason why Reina killed Sachiko's father.
Reina killed Sachiko's father to prevent Makoto from finding out the truth about the death of Makoto's mother if it were to be revealed by Sachiko's father and his colleague, who were investigating the incident. Reina dismisses Sachiko's anger and attacks her with scissors. However, Makoto steps in and is stabbed by Reina. Having killed Makoto, Reina is distraught and bursts into tears.
Having lost Makoto, Sachiko succeeded in making Reina experience hell on earth as she wished, and cried out, "I should have succeeded, but something still doesn't make sense, I'm not satisfied!" Then she hugged Reina and pleaded, "Live. Until the day comes when I can completely forgive Reina-chan, live while atoning for your sins! Prove that even monsters can become mothers someday!" She said that she believed in that future and would take Kokoro into her care. Reina noticed that Kokoro's ears were shaped just like Makoto's, and cried, "I see, that's right. Because Kokoro is my and Makoto's..." and so on and so forth.
The story then shows Reina serving her sentence, and Sachiko and Kokoro visiting Makoto's grave. On the way home, Kokoro tries to crush a spider she sees on the road. When Sachiko asks her why she does it, she answers, "Because, because it's funny!" When Sachiko says, "But the bug will die, you know?" Kokoro replies, "It doesn't matter, even if it dies," and Sachiko is momentarily at a loss for words.
But after that, Sachiko tells Kokoro, "Let's go home and think about it together. Why do insects try so hard to live, and what happens when they die?" and they hold hands and start walking. The film ends with a big smile on Kokoro's face as they walk hand in hand with Sachiko.
On social media, many people expressed their horror at Kokoro's smile, which was just like Reina's, as she tried to kill insects without any hesitation. Comments included, "I got goosebumps in the last scene!", "Her personality was just like Reina's and it was just terrifying until the very end," "It gave me goosebumps," "Her smile was just like her mother's," "It left a bad taste in my mouth," and "It gave me goosebumps."
