The new cast for the drama series " Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective " (TV Asahi, Tuesdays 9pm), starring actress Kanna Hashimoto and set to start on April 22nd, has been announced, revealing that Hiroyuki Hirayama, Tamada Shiori, Jin Katagiri, and Kaname Ouki will appear.
The drama is a film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Mikito Chinen, which has sold over 3.6 million copies in total. This is a medical mystery drama in which the buddy team of Takao Ameku (played by Hashimoto), a diagnostician with superhuman intelligence and memory, and Yu Takanashi (played by Shohei Miura), an internist, solve mysterious cases and phenomena.
Hirayama, who has appeared in numerous dramas and made his presence known in last year's "New Airport Occupy" (Nippon TV), will play Sakurai Kimiyasu, a detective in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's First Investigative Division. He highly values Takao's sharp insight and medical knowledge, and whenever a mysterious case occurs, he asks Takao for help with the investigation. A mutual interest is established between them, providing Takao with mysteries to solve and taking the credit for the success. Regarding his role, he commented, "I would like to portray how I rely on Takao with a touch of humor."
Tamada, who will be making her first appearance in a medical drama, will play nurse Souma Wakana. She frequently attends the softball tournament in which Takao's sister, hospital administrative director Manazuru (Nozomi Sasaki), is participating, and deepens her friendship with internist Yu and others at the venue. She is a character who deepens her relationships with the main characters outside of the medical field. Tamada said, "Because she is a pediatric nurse, I hope to play her as a kind and straightforward person who everyone will love."
Katagiri, who also made headlines for appearing in the final episode special of "Aibou Season 23" (TV Asahi), will play Sakai Kazutoshi, the head of surgery who dislikes Takao. "The character I play, Sakai, is irritated by Takao's attitude and talent, so I hope I can express that well," he said, and appealed, "It's a completely new drama that combines 'medical drama' and 'detective story'! Please look forward to it!!"
Ouki, a former top star of the Takarazuka Revue's Sora troupe who attracted attention for his role as Akazome Emon in last year's NHK Taiga drama "Dear Radiance (Hikaru Kimi e)", will play Sumida Junko, the head of the psychiatry department and Takao's "nemesis". The story is set when Takao was a medical intern and their relationship fell apart due to a certain incident. "Sumida is Takao's nemesis, but at the same time, she is strict with Takao for the sake of the hospital, and at the same time, she recognizes his abilities. So I hope to be able to express the fun and cute aspects of my relationship with Takao," she commented.
